1.Is it correct that the nano Bubble Generator is an add‑on unit to reduce energy, while we still keep the existing aeration system (blower + diffuser)?

Yes, exactly right.

The nano bubble generator works together with your existing blower/diffuser system – not as a replacement. The existing system provides:Bulk oxygen transfer and Macroscopic mixing (keeping sludge in suspension)

 

The nano bubble generator adds ultra‑Fine Bubbles (100 nm – 2 μm) that stay in the water for hours instead of seconds. This dramatically improves oxygen transfer efficiency, so you can shorten the total aeration time or lower the blower power while still meeting the same effluent quality.

 

2. Why can’t the nano bubble generator be used alone?

Because micro‑nano bubbles generate almost no macroscopic mixing. In activated sludge processes, mixing is just as important as oxygen supply.

 

Without sufficient mixing, sludge settles to the bottom within minutes.

Settled sludge loses contact with oxygen and pollutants → microbial activity drops → treatment fails.

 

Conventional diffusers release large bubbles that rise quickly and create turbulent flow – that turbulence keeps the sludge mixed. Nano bubbles are so tiny that they behave like a “cloud” and do not produce any lifting or stirring effect.

 

Therefore, using a nano bubble generator alone would cause severe sludge deposition, even though dissolved oxygen levels might look acceptable in the water column.

 

3. Can we use a submersible mixer to solve the mixing problem?

Absolutely yes – that is a very good and professional solution.

In fact, many successful installations combine: Nano bubble generators for high‑efficiency oxygen transfer.  Submersible mixers (or low‑speed agitators) to keep sludge suspended and distribute the nano bubbles throughout the tank

 

This combination allows you to potentially reduce or even eliminate the blower/diffuser system, depending on your tank geometry and sludge concentration. However, for most municipal WWTPs, we still recommend keeping the existing aeration system as a backup or operating it at a very low intermittent mode.

 

4. How to arrange the submersible mixer with our nano bubble generator?

Here are two practical layouts:

 

Option A (decentralized) – Place several small submersible mixers close to each nano bubble release point. The mixer’s strong flow immediately sweeps the freshly generated nano bubbles into the sludge flocs.

 

Option B (centralized loop) – Install one or two larger submersible mixers to create a circulation flow across the whole tank. Then position the nano bubble release ports near the suction side of the mixers. The mixers will draw in the nano bubble‑laden water and distribute it evenly.

 

Both approaches have been proven in full‑scale wastewater plants.

 

5. Can we design a system that uses only submersible mixers + nano bubble generator (no blower)?

Yes, it is technically possible for certain applications (e.g., equalization basins, polishing ponds, or low‑strength wastewater). But for mainstream activated sludge processes, we usually recommend a hybrid design:

 

Keep a small number of coarse bubble diffusers or run the blower at very low capacity (e.g., 20‑30%) to ensure backup mixing.

 

Let the nano bubble generator + submersible mixers handle >70% of the oxygen demand.

 

This hybrid approach gives you maximum energy savings without any risk of process failure.
